Rhizomatous marshy creeping herbs; rhizome 0.6–1.2 cm in diameter, annulate; roots fibrous. Stipular sheath 3–5.2 cm, purplish, triangular with two abaxial keels, acute-acuminate, leathery. Leaves 7.5–18 cm long, growing parallel to the soil surface, elliptic-lanceolate, alternate, lamina 4–11 × 1.8-4.2 cm, tip acute, base oblique, auriculate, glabrous; petiole terete, 1.5–7.4 cm long, lateral veins 14–19 pairs, margins closely undulate. Inflorescence 3.2–6 cm long; peduncle 0.3–1.2 cm long, terete; spathe slightly constricted in the middle, obliquely septate near the constriction within, a portion of the septum folded to form a collar; basal tubular portion of the spathe 0.8–1.5 cm long, light purplish to brown outside with papillate warty outgrowths, dark purplish lines in the inner side; Limb ovate, up to 3.2 cm long, acute-mucronate, apex curved downwards in older spathe, slightly twisted, opening oblique, brown-dark purple, bullate out side with papillate warty outgrowths, inner side foveate with numerous brownish black finger shaped glandular hairs, apex of the glandular hairs connected by network of white filaments; staminate portion sub terminal, 1.5–2 × 2–2.3 mm, crowned with a ovate-conical sterile appendage; appendage ovate-conical, 2–2.5 × 1.2–1.3 mm, apex acute, locked in the collar formed from the septum; male flowers 60–80, sessile, spirally arranged in pairs, oblong, longitudinal constriction in the middle, 0.3–0.4 × 0.5–0.6 mm, cream colored, apex cupulate with two tubular appendages with dialated base; upper margins undulate with pinkish spots; pistillate portion up to 3.5–4 × 3.7–3.9 mm, followed by filamentous sterile portion with few sterile flowers, 4–6 mm long; female flowers 20–30, in 4 whorls, 1.7–-1.9 × 1.2–1.5 mm, pale greenish, sessile, obovoid with broad top and narrow base, numerous prominent branched or unbranched trichomes on the lateral side; ovary unilocular, ovules 3; stigma 5 sided, globose with a depression at the middle with longitudinal striations; olfactory bodies up to 7, obovoid, 3 lobed at the apex, white, 0.6–7 × 0.3–0.4 mm, closely placed above the pistillate portion. Fruit syncarpium, not enclosed in basal cupular portion of the spathe, 1.1–3 × 0.7–0.9 cm, peduncle 1–1.7 cm long; berries 20–30 in each syncarpium, 3-seeded, 3–4 × 2.5–3 mm, obovoid, 5 angled, purplish brown, warty outgrowths at the apex with a depression at the middle, papillate, dehiscence by longitudinal splitting of pericarp from base upwards in water. Seeds ovoid- lanceolate, 2–2.2 × 0.6–0.7 mm, one end expanded, narrow at the other end, ilinear or curved, with longitudinal ridges having oval outgrowths.
